Title: Publishing and Copyright at UC for Faculty and Graduate Students

Abstract:
What support does UC have for publishing open access, and how do our transformative agreements work? How does it work when you sign a publishing agreement but need to make your work open access through UC? Can I sign a publishing agreement and still use the article in my dissertation (or that of my student)?

In a seminar on March 31, Martha Stuit, UCSC Scholarly Communication Librarian, will address these topics and others. She’ll speak about publishing support at the University of California and ways that she supports our campus, including faculty and students, with publishing and copyright. The talk will include a refresher on how the UC Presidential Open Access Policy for faculty works, including copyright transfers, and what impact publishing open access has. We’ll also look at the open access policy for dissertations by graduate students and how that works with copyright when you include your articles in your dissertation. UC has numerous transformative agreements and publishing discounts that we’ll cover, too. Throughout the seminar, there will be opportunities for discussion, as well as time for questions after the talk.
